An aubade —

Swollen eyes from all the tears, no
sleep tonight, just you
and I atop a flimsy
hammock
too close to the ground,
beneath the stars you hold
so dear. The moon has moved
from east to west, and so
have the clouds she hid behind
all night. Minutes from now, day
break and
goodbye
from the freshly cut grass of this place
we’ve called ours, from a life
spent together amidst the blaze
of the smoke from your lips, in
jeepney rides and sleepless nights
like this.
